Peter still wasn’t giving up on taking Lisa to his parent’s home to meet them. He peered out the picture glass windows at Lisa’s garden. “My mother has a rose garden, too. Maybe the two of you can swap ideas or something?”

Lisa mouth turned up with a slight mischievous twist. “What time were we to be at your parent’s house?”

Peter had never had to work so hard on a relationship before. Was that what made her so intriguing to him? To Pembrooke?

The idea that Pembrooke still wanted her, irked him though. Couldn’t the guy take ‘no’ for an answer? Then again, Peter realized, he couldn’t take a ‘no’ from her either. She’d hooked him every bit, and he didn’t want her to let go of him, nor did he want to let go of her.

And yet, the baby food mystery still plagued him. When he’d mentioned it to James earlier that morning, all he did was laughed. Did James figure his younger brother was in for a real surprise?

Peter sipped his coffee as he considered Lisa’s hair pulled back in a ponytail. He wanted to free the golden strands held hostage and bury his face in them.

She sighed deeply as she took another bite of her donut, her breasts rising with the intake.

He cleared his throat. “I’ll pick you up around half past five.”

“All right. I’ll just have to call Hawk and cancel our engagement.”

He shook his head. She couldn’t be serious.

She motioned to the living room. “Would you like to watch that movie again? Or did you need to get back to work?”

“I told James I was taking off this morning and wouldn’t be back until after lunch.”

“What will Jenny think?”

“I told you. She’s out of a job as far as her match-making goes.”

“And your brother? What does he think of you gallivanting around after me when you should be hard at work?” Lisa grabbed up her coffee cup. “Did you need a refill?”

“Sure. That half-and-half certainly makes the coffee smooth.”

“I know I shouldn’t indulge myself so, but I really like the taste in my coffee.”

“As far as your question about James, he’s amused. Says I’m as good as married.”

She laughed. “He’s got a cute sense of humor, too. So, where’d he ever come up with a notion like that?”

“It has something to do with my neglecting business for the sake of a woman, first time ever.”

“Oooh, then I’m a bad influence.”

“I’ll say.”

Her brows rose as she considered his smile.

“Really bad,” he said, chuckling under his breath.

After they refilled their cups, they walked into the living room, and he restarted the movie.

When they curled up on the couch together, she snuggled against him. “To think my hump-day morning could have turned out like this.”

He chuckled, the warmth of her body stirring his to the nth degree. “Yeah, mine, too. Though I had a heck of a Tuesday also.”

Though the movie played in the background, Lisa didn’t seem particularly interested in the story. Instead, she ran her fingers in a light touch over his chest, torturing him with the motion.
